Walk it off: Boomers claim dubious title of most obese

Admittedly, the Greatest Generation has some pretty big shoes to fill. Baby boomers have managed to fill them, but not in the way they'd envisioned. Turns out those 77 million post-World War II offspring have become the most obese generation in America, and the most sedentary, according to a study by the Trust for America's Health. 

Girth and sloth present problems not just for boomers, born from 1946 to 1964, but for everyone sharing in the bill to repair or deal with the health damage. Obesity-related heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis are expected to fuel already escalating Medicare costs. Medicare pays 34 percent more on an obese senior than one with a healthy weight.
