Survey: We’re All Stressed Out! (Especially Overweight Kids)

A little bit of stress can be good for you. But too much can hurt — and according to the American Psychological Association’s annual survey on the topic, a lot of us in the U.S. are feeling the pain.
“Perhaps most notable,” the report says, “are what the survey results suggest about the connection between overweight children and stress.” Almost a third of U.S. kids are overweight or obese, according to the Trust for America’s Health. And 31% of kids who reported being overweight in the APA’s survey said they were worried about things in their lives, compared to 14% of normal-weight kids.
Overweight kids were also more likely to report having trouble falling asleep, headaches and stomach problems, feeling angry or getting in fights and “not wanting to do anything.” And they’re more likely to report that a parent has been worried or stressed out in the past month.
