Overcome bad habits to stem medical costs

Congress and the American public are contemplating health care reform. As in the old saying about charity, health care reform should begin at home. A great place to start would be for people to lose some weight. An obese society is an unhealthy society.

A recently released study by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation showed Tennessee to rank fourth in the nation for obesity among adults. Tennessee was only slightly behind the nation's fattest state, Mississippi. Even more alarming, Tennessee ranked fifth worst for childhood obesity. That is a shameful statistic.
