In our opinion: New ways to address extraordinarily harmful prescription drug misuse

In 2013, the Trust for America's Health (TFAH) issued a report titled "Prescription Drug Abuse: Strategies to Stop the Epidemic." It found that Utah had the eighth highest drug overdose mortality in the country and that the number of overdose deaths had increased by a whopping 59 percent since 1999. It's critical that we take action to reverse this destructive trend.
"Prescription drugs can be a miracle for many, but misuse can have dire consequences. The rapid rise of abuse requires nothing short of a full-scale response," said Jeffrey Levi, who serves as executive director of TFAH.
