Americans are the unhealthiest snackers in the world

The food industry is pushing snacks on the shelves and in the media, says Jeff Levi, executive director of the Trust for America’s Health, a nonprofit advocacy group. “These tend to be foods eaten while watching television and being inactive. This is what’s being promoted by the food industry. You don’t see a lot of advertisements for fruits and vegetables.” Obesity rates are highest in southern states and among African Americans, Latinos and lower-income, less-educated Americans, he adds.
