Sen. Sherrod Brown hopes to get support for bill to fight antibiotic-resistant superbugs

Among the bill’s aims: improve tracking of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, improve antibiotic use in hospitals and other health-care settings (and limit misuse), and direct the National Institutes of Health to work with other agencies to form a strategic plan.

While it hasn’t taken off in Congress, the proposal has support from a long list of medical and public-health groups, including the American Public Health Association and Infectious Diseases Society of America, March of Dimes and Trust for America’s Health.
