17 Groups Seek Compounding As Outbreak Anniversary Passes

A coalition of 17 groups Friday (Sept. 20) called on lawmakers to pass drug compounding and distribution security legislation as the anniversary of the deadly meningitis outbreak occurred this week. The press comes as lawmakers engage in bicameral negotiations to hash out a path forward for drug compounding and distribution security proposals.

"This week marks the one year anniversary of the first reported deaths associated with the deadly outbreak of fungal meningitis caused by contaminated spinal injections made by a compounding pharmacy," according to the letter. "Congress cannot allow additional patients to be harmed by gaps in oversight, and we cannot afford to miss this singular opportunity to hold large facilities that compound high-risk products accountable to robust quality standards."
