Florida rates well in readiness for attack, but two risky gaps remain

The anthrax attacks launched by mail on Sept. 17, 2001, represented the first major test of public health systems as part of our national security. A faster, stronger response in the future depends on your support.
During those frightening weeks, police and firefighters across Brevard County scrambled to countless reports of “white powder” or mysterious-looking mail. A small army of state doctors and scientists worked around the clock in state labs to test for anthrax and to rush treatment and instructions to local hospitals and police.
