Metro Parks, Vanderbilt project targets childhood obesity

Six hundred Davidson County families will participate in a health project intended to reduce obesity among preschoolers, researchers announced Tuesday.

Metro Parks is partnering with Vanderbilt University Medical Center to getparents involved in taking their children to community recreation centers and changing their diets. The program targets 3- to 5-year-olds.

Through the program, Growing Right Onto Wellness (GROW): Changing Early Body Mass Index Trajectories, families will get help making healthy lifestyle changes and researchers will assess the influence of risk factors that lead to obesity.
