Flu could swamp hospitals, group warns

As many as 56,228 Ohioans might need to be hospitalized at the height of an H1N1 outbreak, according to a report released today, Oct. 1, by Trust for America's Health, a national nonprofit organization focused on disease prevention.

Up to 70 percent of the state's hospital beds could be filled with H1N1 patients if 35 percent of the population gets sick from the virus, commonly called the swine flu, the group reported, basing its numbers on estimates from the FluSurge model developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
