Gyms make fitness fun for kids

Programs offer fresh options to foster healthy lifestyles

Some instructors feel an obligation to create healthy habits - particularly in the face of child obesity. Tennessee ranks fifth highest in overweight youths (ages
10-17) at 36.5 percent, according to a July 2009 report by Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

"As fitness professionals, we have to do our part to make a difference in that," said John Kennedy, senior program director at the Franklin YMCA. "Providing that opportunity is the right thing to do."
