FLEMINGSBURG -- As summer moves in and area residents look for ways to shed unwanted pounds, the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service in Fleming County is offering two unique opportunities to help get into shape.
Kentucky now ranks seventh in the nation in terms of obese residents and more adults and children are experiencing weight-related health conditions than ever before, according to a recently released study by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports the number of overweight individuals in the United States has increased dramatically over the past 20 years, with nearly a third of all Americans now facing weight problems, and that some 300,000 deaths may be attributed to obesity each year.
