Nurses on the march

CHEYENNE -- National Nurses' Week comes at a time when Wyoming faces a shortage of 1,200 nurses by the year 2010.

That number ranks Wyoming 38 out of the 50 states, according to a report issued in March by the Trust for America's Health.

The title is "Shortchanging America's Health."

The shortage figure may be changing with the downturn in the economy, however.

Coinciding with the weeklong observation, hundreds of registered nurses (RNs) are expected to join a rally in Washington, D.C. on May 13. The goal is to focus public attention on health care reform in general and RN patient ratios in particular
