Groups call for food safety overhaul

The nation's current system for keeping our food safe is severely flawed and must be overhauled, according to a report released this morning by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The report comes amid calls from President Barack Obama and innumerate food-safety experts for better protections for keeping tainted products out of the nation's food supply.

Complaints about the limitations and other perceived problems with the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture have been mounting for years and most recently have focused on a nationwide outbreak related to salmonella-tainted peanut butter from a Georgia company.
