Healthy citizenry is the wealth of a nation

The concept that health is a resource needed to pursue one's dreams is rooted in our nation's ethos. Our health and well-being have allowed Americans to realize our full potential - a recognition that our nation's health is our wealth.
A report released in July by Trust for America's Health found that a small strategic investment in disease prevention could result in significant savings in U.S. health-care costs. An investment of $10 per person per year in proven community-based programs to increase physical activity, improve nutrition and prevent smoking and other tobacco use could save our country more than $16 billion annually within five years.
This is a return of $5.60 for every $1 spent.
