READER OPINION: We're soldiers in the war on obesity, by Donna Dubuc

New Hampshire was named the 35th most obese state in America according to the fifth annual "F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies Are Failing in America, 2008" report from the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The state's adult obesity rate is 23.6 percent, an increase for the third year in a row.

Nationally, adult obesity rates rose in 37 states in the past year.

No states saw a decrease. I was surprised to see how many neighboring states beat New Hampshire, when we view ourselves as as rugged, hearty, strong and independent.

We are not as fit as the flatlanders who will be visiting here in the weeks to come to see our foliage and jack-o'-lanterns.
