Editorial: Federal health-care funding for Florida needs a dose of skepticism, a shot in the arm

Florida ranks among the worst states in the nation for AIDS, Alzheimer's and new cancer cases, but is near the bottom in federal funding for public health. Those disturbing realities are part of a report released this month by the nonprofit Trust for America's Health. In the first of its kind analysis for state health funding through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the study found the CDC provides $17.23 per person nationally for programs such as cancer and chronic disease prevention, HIV prevention, immunizations and infectious disease prevention.
