Oregon's Emergency preparedness ranked Oregon ranked higher than all other Western states in a new assessment of the nation's ability to respond to a public health emergency. It was one of 22 states that scored nine or 10 on key preparedness indicators.
Since 2003, the Trust for America's Health
has issued a report, "Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health From Diseases, Disasters and Bioterrorism."
The new report shows that preparedness investments have paid off, said Dr. Grant Higginson, community health and health planning administrator for the state. He cited public health's response to recent windstorms and flooding as examples.
