Public health advocate Jeffrey Levi, executive director of the nonprofit Trust for America's Health, says the actions of CDC officials may not have inspired a patient's trust. "You need to engender the support of the person who is sick. ... If someone from the CDC had said, 'We're sending the jet so you don't infect other people,' I think he might well have come home," Levi said.
