Obesity has risen dramatically in U.S., analysis shows

According to government data, about 66 percent of people in the United States are now either overweight or obese, which is defined as 30 or more pounds over a healthy weight. Obesity increases a person's risk of contracting numerous diseases, including diabetes, heart diseases and cancer. Indiana ranked eighth among the 50 states for obesity, with 26 percent of adults classified as obese from 2003 to 2005, according to the Trust for America's Health.
