Homeland Security Chief Plans Overhaul

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff laid out a major overhaul of his department on Wednesday that focuses resources on the highest-risk areas, including new technology to protect the nation's largest transit systems... ...Chertoff's move to create the post of Homeland Security medical officer shows that he "has recognized that health is a major security issue," said Shelly Hearne, executive director of Trust for America's Health, a Washington-based nonprofit organization that focuses on the nation's public health system. "It's an opportunity to better integrate and coordinate our bioterrorism preparedness," Hearne said. "There are a lot of different moving pieces out there, but the gears have not all been spinning with the same machine."
