Are We Prepared if Avian Flu Hits?

An avian flu pandemic could claim the lives of as many as 16,000 people in Missouri and Kansas, according to a study by a public-health research group. In a pandemic — if it hits — about 2 million Kansans and Missourians could be infected and 70,000 victims could need hospital treatment, the report by the Trust for America’s Health estimated.
